$BREAD Community Currency
$BREAD is the community currency of the Bread Cooperative, running on Gnosis Chain. It’s stable, spendable, and every token in circulation is backed 1:1 by xDAI — a stablecoin pegged to USD.
What makes $BREAD different from other stablecoins is what happens to the interest. When you mint $BREAD through the Bread Solidarity Fund, your xDAI gets put to work generating yield. That yield funds the cooperative and its member projects, distributed every month by a community vote. Your principal stays intact. Only the earnings get shared.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”The Bread Solidarity Fund is a smart contract on Gnosis Chain. It accepts xDAI, converts it to sDAI, and mints $BREAD tokens at a 1:1 ratio with your deposit. The interest earned on the sDAI pool is distributed monthly to Bread’s member projects, based on a vote from $BREAD holders. The more $BREAD you hold, the more voting power you have.
