We’re honored and excited that you’re interested in potentially joining as a member project! Here you can find more information about what we expect from projects and what you can expect in the application process. Note that this is the current process and we expect it to change over time as we grow.
We expect projects to be comfortable with being associated with the label post-capitalist in that we are critical of how the current system is working and we want to prefigure the infrastructure for what a new system can look like. One that is more democratic and equitable for everyone and not just the few at the top using the tools we have available to us.
While we are utilizing crypto tooling in order to facilitate the system, we do not expect every member project to be very involved in the crypto space. We are interested in both projects that are and ones that are focused on building grassroots movements whether there is crypto involved or not.
Here are our guiding principles which we expect member projects to take to heart.
BREAD Cooperative Wishlist
These wish lists are meant to help potential future members of BREAD Cooperative know how / if they would be a good fit to joining the cooperative with their own project. While a potential project does not need to be organized exactly according to every point, the more they are aligned with, the more likely they are to be accepted. If you feel that there are particularities about your organization, then feel free to explain when applying as a project in the form.
How should a potential project be organized?
• Received no venture capital funding • Incorporated as a non-profit or cooperative • Governed as a cooperative / democratically • Has an existing or planned revenue stream or model • Organization has at least 3 members • Have a multisignature wallet where crypto funds are stored
What should an organizer of a potential member project have?
• Have used cryptocurrency and defi apps before on Ethereum and Gnosis Chain • Experience working with progressive grassroots groups • Have read through the BREAD Cooperative blog • https://paragraph.com/@breadcoop • Joined the BREAD Cooperative Guild • https://guild.xyz/breadchain • Have minted at least 10 BREAD, preferably much more • [add new crowdstaking] • Joined the crypto leftist discord • https://cryptoleftists.xyz/ • Checked out our roadmap • 🗺️ Roadmap • Read our constitution • 🍞 BREAD Cooperative Constitution • Have applied through the project form (scroll down)
What are some of the types of use cases, projects, and organizations we would like to see join BREAD Cooperative?
This is a collection of projects and use cases shared by current members of BREAD Cooperative that they would like to see be a part of the project. Don’t take this as the only kinds of initiatives we will accept.
• An aligned physical community space • Existing labor unions and cooperatives interested in or already exploring the use of crypto • Local community organizations interested in exploring the use of crypto • Crypto based saving circle like a Susu • Artist and developer collectives • Tools that make it easier for organizing labor unions and strike action • Decentralized academic / research institute (p2p ranking of disciplinary knowledge and voting on research for highest tier) • Decentralized co-op / commune platform (money management through offchain ledgers enforced on chain if needed) • Decentralized non profit org platform • Bioinformatic useful proof of work blockchain (DNA sequencing) (https://arxiv.org/abs/2209.03865)
